Volkswagen's E-Bugster Concept |
There was the Volkswagen Beetle R concept, a car which basically took the standard Beetle and injected it with some added testosterone. And now there’s this, a VW Beetle with a chopped roof, massive 20-inch wheels, and an all-electric drivetrain.
E-Bugster, with the “E” standing for electric, “Bug” for the U.S. nickname of the Beetle, and "ster" for speedster, is fitted with a 114 horsepower electric motor coupled to a lithium-ion battery fitted under the rear seat and trunk floor. It offers a 100-mile range, and can be recharged through various outlets, including standard household sockets and dedicated fast chargers. With the ‘level 3′ quick charger the E-Bugster can take on board an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes.

The dash display has been changed to include an ‘energy consumption display’ instead of a tachometer, and additional gauges have been added to display information regarding the battery charge, range and electricity generation through braking.
The all-electric E-Bugster has zero emissions and a range of 100 miles (160 km). The battery pack is recharged via a plug located under the VW logo and is compatible with both 120V and 240V chargers as well as quick chargers that provide an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes.
VW calls the electric propulsion system “Blue-e-motion” and has already announced that it will be used in future electric vehicles such as the Golf Blue-e-Motion.
